Image Converter

Convert between JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and BMP.

Image Converter changes an image from one format to another — PNG to JPG, JPG to PNG, anything to WebP or AVIF — in a single click, in batches, with a quality control for the lossy formats. Conversion happens on a canvas in your browser, so your pictures are never sent anywhere.

Questions about Image Converter

What happens to transparency when I convert PNG to JPG?
JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas have to become a solid colour. The tool fills them with the background colour you pick — white by default — instead of the black you get from naive converters.
Which formats can it read?
Everything your browser can decode: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, SVG and, on Safari, HEIC. For HEIC on other browsers, use the dedicated HEIC to JPG tool.
Is converting PNG to PNG useful?
Sometimes — it strips metadata and re-encodes with the browser's encoder, which can shave a little size off files written by older software.
Can I convert a hundred images at once?
Yes. Add as many as you like, set the format once, and they come back individually or as a single ZIP. Files are processed one at a time so memory stays flat, which is what lets a phone get through a long batch without the tab being dropped.
Will AVIF output work in my browser?
Writing AVIF depends on the browser carrying an AVIF encoder: Chromium browsers generally do, Firefox and Safari generally do not, and the option is disabled where it is missing. Reading AVIF is much more widely supported than writing it.
Is Image Converter really free, with no limits?
Yes. There is no account, no daily cap, no file-size tier and no watermark, because there is no server cost to recover. The site is funded by clearly disclosed partner recommendations on the Partners page, never by metering the tools.
Are my files or text uploaded when I use Image Converter?
No. Everything is processed by JavaScript running in your browser, on your device. You can verify it: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use the tool. You will see no request carrying your data — because there is nowhere for it to go.
