How long should a title and description be?
Titles are usually truncated around 580 pixels, roughly 55-60 characters. Descriptions get about 155-160 characters on desktop and less on mobile. The counters here measure pixel width as well as characters, since a title of wide capitals truncates sooner.
What size should the Open Graph image be?
1200×630 is the safe default, above the 600×315 minimum and within the 8 MB cap most platforms enforce. Keep important content away from the edges, since some platforms crop to a square.
Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter tags?
Not entirely — X falls back to Open Graph when Twitter tags are absent. Adding twitter:card is still worth it to choose between a summary and a large image.
Will these tags improve my search ranking?
The description is not a ranking factor and search engines frequently rewrite it, but it decides whether anyone clicks. The title does carry weight. Open Graph and Twitter tags do nothing for ranking at all — they only control how a shared link looks.
Why does a social preview still show my old image?
Because platforms cache Open Graph data, often for days. Change the image URL or use the platform's own link debugger to force a refetch. This page cannot clear their cache: it writes markup and never contacts your site or theirs.
