Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. Frames go from the capture API into the browser's encoder and then into a file on your disk. Nothing is transmitted, which is why there is no time limit and no watermark — there is no bandwidth to pay for.
Can I record system audio?
When sharing a tab or, on some platforms, a whole screen, yes — the share dialog offers it. Chromium supports tab audio broadly; on macOS, capturing full system audio needs an OS-level virtual device.
Which format do I get?
WebM with VP9 or VP8 where the browser supports it, or MP4 with H.264 where that is available. Both play everywhere and can be edited by any modern editor.
Does it work on an iPhone or iPad?
No. iOS does not expose screen capture to browsers at all, so no web page can record an iPhone screen — use the recorder built into Control Centre instead. On Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS it works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
How does this compare with a desktop recorder such as OBS?
OBS wins whenever you need scenes, overlays, several sources at once or streaming, and it writes long recordings straight to disk. Are my files or text uploaded when I use Screen Recorder?
No. Everything is processed by JavaScript running in your browser, on your device. You can verify it: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use the tool. You will see no request carrying your data — because there is nowhere for it to go.
