Typing Test
Words per minute, scored per character.
Typing Test times you over 15 seconds to 5 minutes on common English words or a passage of prose, then reports net words per minute, per-keystroke accuracy and the keys you missed. Scoring counts characters, so a corrected typo costs only time. Everything runs in the page; nothing is uploaded.

Questions about Typing Test
Why is my score lower here than on other typing sites?
Two reasons. A word is defined as five characters including the space that follows it, and prose full of capitals and commas is slower to type than a plain word list, so the mode you pick moves the number by a long way. Net speed also counts only the characters that are correct when the clock stops. Compare a score with another from the same mode and the same duration and nothing else.
Does a mistake I corrected still count against me?
Not against your speed. Characters are scored as they stand at the end, so a letter you fixed counts as correct, and the cost of fixing it is the second or two it took. Accuracy is reported separately and does remember the wrong keypress, which is why the two numbers can disagree.
Can I paste text in to fake a score?
Pasting and dropping text into the box are both blocked. There is no leaderboard and no account, so a fabricated score would fool nobody but you. Your best result is kept in this browser and shown alongside the current run for comparison.
How long should the test be?
Fifteen seconds measures a burst and flatters almost everyone. Sixty seconds is the usual standard and the fairest single number. Two or five minutes shows what you can hold, which is what matters for real work; most people lose a tenth to a fifth of their one-minute speed by the five-minute mark.
Where is my best score kept?
In this browser's local storage, under this site alone. Clearing site data, using a private window or moving to another device loses it, because there is no account behind it. The button below the result deletes it immediately.
Is Typing Test really free, with no limits?
Yes. There is no account, no daily cap, no file-size tier and no watermark, because there is no server cost to recover. The site is funded by clearly disclosed partner recommendations on the Partners page, never by metering the tools.
Are my files or text uploaded when I use Typing Test?
No. Everything is processed by JavaScript running in your browser, on your device. You can verify it: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use the tool. You will see no request carrying your data — because there is nowhere for it to go.
