Debt Payoff Calculator
Compare avalanche and snowball across all your debts.
Debt payoff calculator runs your debts month by month under both strategies at once: avalanche aims the surplus at the highest rate, snowball at the smallest balance. It shows the payoff date, total interest and clearance order for each, and what the choice costs. Everything is worked out in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

Questions about Debt Payoff Calculator
What is the difference between avalanche and snowball?
Both pay the same total every month. Avalanche sends the surplus to the debt with the highest interest rate, which always costs the least in interest. Snowball sends it to the smallest balance, so a debt disappears sooner and the plan feels like it is working. The gap between them is usually smaller than people expect.
Why does the payoff date barely move when I change strategy?
Because the minimum payments are the same either way and they do most of the work. The strategy only decides where the surplus goes, so the finish date shifts by a month or two while the interest total shifts by rather more. If both figures are close, choose whichever you will actually keep to.
My credit card minimum changes every month. Does that matter?
Yes, and it is the biggest limitation here. Card minimums are usually a percentage of the balance, so they fall as the balance falls and stretch the payoff far longer than a fixed minimum suggests. Enter the amount you intend to keep paying every month rather than the shrinking figure on the statement.
What if my payments do not cover the interest?
The tool says so plainly rather than producing a payoff date. When the minimums plus the extra come to less than the monthly interest, the balance grows whatever order you pay in, and no strategy fixes that. At that point the question is one for a free debt advice service, not a calculator.
Are my balances sent anywhere?
No. The simulation runs in JavaScript in the tab and the figures stay on your device. Your last list is kept in this browser's local storage so it is there when you come back; that copy is local and is never uploaded.
Is Debt Payoff Calculator really free, with no limits?
Yes. There is no account, no daily cap, no file-size tier and no watermark, because there is no server cost to recover. The site is funded by clearly disclosed partner recommendations on the Partners page, never by metering the tools.
Are my files or text uploaded when I use Debt Payoff Calculator?
No. Everything is processed by JavaScript running in your browser, on your device. You can verify it: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use the tool. You will see no request carrying your data — because there is nowhere for it to go.
