Is the text still selectable?
Yes. Each original page is embedded as a Form XObject and drawn with a scale transform, so all its vector content and text survive intact. It is not a screenshot.
Why not just use the printer driver?
You can, when you are printing yourself. Producing the N-up file matters when you are emailing a handout, archiving a compact copy, or printing from a device whose driver has no such option.
Can I add cut marks or a frame?
Yes, an optional thin border can be drawn around each slot, which helps when the sheets will actually be cut apart.
What happens with mixed page sizes?
Every source page is scaled to fit its slot independently while keeping its aspect ratio, so mixed sizes are centred rather than stretched.
Does this produce a foldable booklet?
Yes — pick the Booklet layout instead of a grid. It imposes the pages so the outermost sheet carries the last page beside the first, the next carries the second and the second-to-last, and so on, padding out to a multiple of four. Print double-sided, fold down the middle and staple.
Will the text still be readable at 9-up?
On A4, 9-up leaves each page about a third of its original width, so 11 pt body text lands near 3.5 pt — enough to check a layout, not to read. 2-up is comfortable for most documents and 4-up works well for slides and anything set in large type.
Is N-up PDF (Pages per Sheet) really free, with no limits?
Yes. There is no account, no daily cap, no file-size tier and no watermark, because there is no server cost to recover. The site is funded by clearly disclosed partner recommendations on the Partners page, never by metering the tools.
Are my files or text uploaded when I use N-up PDF (Pages per Sheet)?
No. Everything is processed by JavaScript running in your browser, on your device. You can verify it: open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use the tool. You will see no request carrying your data — because there is nowhere for it to go.
